Requirements
Required Academic Qualifications

An applicant for admission shall hold the equivalent of an academic Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized academic higher education institution, corresponding to at least 180 ECTS, in a subject relevant to the topic of the Master programme.

Applicants for the track POLINN “Digital Communication, Policy and Innovation in Europe” should have a bachelor or master’s degree in communication or other disciplines of social sciences.

Applicants for the track TECMAN “Digital Technology and Management” should have a bachelor (or master’s) degree within development and/or management of Information and Communication Technologies (i.e. computer science, Information Technology, informatics, computer or telecommunications engineering or ICT management).Candidates with another bachelor’s degree will be considered, if they are deemed to have comparable educational prerequisites.

Applicants for the track ICT4D “Information and Communication Technology for Development” should have a bachelor degree of at least three years, or master degree, in one of the following subjects: Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology / Development Studies, European Studies, International Relations / International Organizations, Environmental Social Studies, Political Science, Human Geography, Sociology, or Communication Science.
Furthermore, the curriculum of the eligible degree valid for the programme must contain:
(1) at least 60 credits [ECTS or equivalent] of theoretically focussed, social sciences’ courses (for example courses on sociology, cultural anthropology, political science, communication theory, international relations; contrarily, courses in news reporting, marketing or applied economics, for example, will not be considered), and
(2) 12 credits [ECTS or equivalent] of social-scientific research methods/statistics.
Other social science degrees fulfilling the last requirements (60 + 12 credits) can also be considered.
Applicants for this track should also have a Grade Point Average (GPA) for the B.Sc. or B.A. study of at least 70% of the maximum scale. If you are not familiar with GPA, you can consult the minimum requirements as they have been adapted to different university systems.

The following degrees are not consider valid pre-requisites for accessing this specialization (all tracks): degrees in Humanities (i.e. languages, literature, philosophy, history, archaeology, law, theology and art), natural sciences (biology, chemistry, earth science, space sciences and physics), mathematics, statistics, medicine and other health degrees. Note that business and management degrees combined with information technologies can be considered (for TECMAN only), any other business, economics and management degree is not considered. Also engineering degrees focussed on software and communications are considered, any other engineering degree is not considered.

English Proficiency

Proof of English proficiency is recommended for Phase 1 (application) and required for Phase 2 (registration). Therefore, interested candidates confident enough to have the required level of English proficiency are invited to apply, even if they have no test result at the time of the application. Lack of proof of English proficiency will not be considered a disadvantage.

If shortlisted for phase 2, applicants must demonstrate their English proficiency. Without valid proof of English proficiency, candidates are not registered for the programme.

English proficiency can be demonstrated through the following tests and diplomas:

These are the only tests accepted as proofs of English proficiency. Any other type of diplomas is not considered as valid proof of English proficiency. The period between the proficiency test or diploma and the deadline for applications must not exceed two years.

For applicants who already completed a bachelor’s degree or another university degree that was entirely held in English, from an institution based in either Australia, the UK, Ireland, USA, New Zealand, South Africa or Canada, this counts as sufficient demonstration of their English proficiency. No test is necessary.

A bachelor or master’s degree entirely held in English from institutions based elsewhere than in Australia, the UK, Ireland, USA, New Zealand, South Africa or Canada are not considered as proof of English proficiency, without exceptions.

Study periods of different lengths not leading to a degree entirely held in English, in an institution based in Australia, the UK, Ireland, USA, New Zealand, South Africa or Canada, DO NOT count as sufficient demonstration of their English proficiency. A test result is required.

 

Other Requirements

Applicants for positions as self-funding students that do not have a Bachelor’s degree at the moment of the application are considered if they are expected to be awarded a Bachelor’s degree before the start of the programme, .

Considering the large amounts of applications, applicants for an E+ Scholarship that do not have a Bachelor’s degree at the time of the submission of application are considered not eligible.

Furthermore, in judging whether a particular diploma or work experiences is relevant to the topic of the programme, the selection commission will take into consideration the motivation letter.

Prospective candidates should also note that Digital Marketing is a minor subject in the DCLead programme.
